About Vice President Emil Mackey

I believe that Public Education is a civil right and should be available to every child in Alaska for free. As per Article VII, Section 1 of the Alaska State Constitution: “The legislature shall by general law establish and maintain a system of public schools open to all children of the State.” I fully support the equal protection of all students, including LBGTQ. I also understand the implications of the Molly Hooch Settlement and will advocate for an equal and adequately funded public education for all Alaska children. Unfortunately, as per our Alaska constitution, State Funding is a State Responsibility and the School District has no control over our revenue. Irresponsible vetos by Governor Mike Dunleavy has led to a statewide educational funding crisis that is forcing consolidation across the state to maintain the smallest possible class sizes, school activities, and high school electives.
